Exams Stress

The thought of examination sparks off stress in many students. Some of the common reasons for this kind of stress is, the fear of not being able to revise all the needed material before the exam and the desire to perform well in the exam. Due to this, most students deprive themselves of the needed sleep leaving them more stressed out. Examinations need not scare us and put us in any form of instability if we can learn to put in some of the measures listed below

Dealing with Exams stress

1.Plan- One of the basic things to do, to avoid stress during exams is to make a list of all the topics that needs to be revised from your syllabus. Knowing what to revise will go a long way to relief you from uneccessary pressure. Do away with topics that you have revised until all the revision is done. Additionally you must be able to recognise the best time to study during the day, have a planned time table and start your revision ahead of time.

2.Make time for relaxation- It will be advisable for you to take breaks of fifteen to twenty minutes after every 120 minutes during revision time to wind down to watch television talk to friends or engage in any activity they enjoy doing a bit. This will help them beat down any tension possible tension that may arise from the examinations.

3.Stay away from drugs and stimulants- Stimulants like black coffee and energy drinks as well as tranquilizers should be avoided. This is because the use of these, can impair your concentration and can also add to an already stressful situation you may have developed from an impending exam.

4.Exercise- Having regular exercises during times of exams can be very helpful, in that it will keep you physically fit. To add to this, exercises also help increase the blood flow around the body which helps to diffuse nervous energy that is produced under stressful conditions. Exercises like walking, dancing or cycling can be very helpful and are highly recommended

5.Maintain a positive attitude- There is the tendency that negative thoughts about the possibility of failing an exam will come rushing into your mind. Such thoughts must not be entertained and must be discarded immediately and replaced with positive thoughts like passing the exams and the positive outcomes that could be gained from passing the exams. Thinking positively will not only help to keep your dreams alive but also keep your energy levels high and can help you avoid stressful circumstances before and during examination periods.

It is a fact that, students sometimes enter into stress before, during and after exams. This is because most students fail to avoid circumstances that can create stress during exams. The mention of examinations should not send shivers down the spines of students only if they will learn to adopt the approaches mentioned in this article. All it takes is action on the part of a student and the issue of exams stress could become a thing of the past.
